New Years Eve Beauty/Style Tips

Happy New Years Eve!! Can you all believe in a few hours we’ll be in 2013?! That’s crazy to me.

I hope you all had a lovely holiday season. I enjoyed the time to pig out and spend with family and friends. Starting 2013, it’s back to the gym/eating healthy/bikini body mindset!

I know I’m late and probably should’ve posted these tips yesterday, but better late than never right? These are (as usual) just my opinions! Enjoy the New Years Eve parties, beauties!!

Tip Number 1: Don’t Forget the Legs. As ladies, we spend SO much time perfecting our faces. If you’re wearing a skirt or dress (or shorts!) tonight, don’t neglect your legs! This picture has been circulating Pinterest for a few weeks, from the blog Maskcara. Genius!!Image

A little temporary tan/shimmer, plus it makes her already incredible legs look fantastic! You already know I went out and bought this at Target today. ūüôā

Tip Number 2: Don’t bust yourself in Heels. I HATE wearing heels. Especially where I live in New England, with all the snow and ice out there, it’s just not worth it to me. I’d rather be comfy in some sparkly flats! I actually saw a pair identical to these ones at Target today!Image

Tip Number Three: Try Some False Lashes. It’s one of a handful of nights where even the craziest falsies go! I prefer a more natural looking falsie, but hey – anything goes!Image

Tip Number Four: Whatever you wear, be confident in it! Just because your best girlfriends are all wearing sequin dresses, if you feel most confident in skinny black jeans and a flowy top, rock it! Confidence will always win! Same goes with makeup looks too!

Be safe tonight lovelies!

How To: White Eyeshadow

White eyeshadow is so pretty and clean, makes your eyes look bigger and makes you look more awake instantaneously.

It is also one of the infamous makeup looks that screams “MIDDLE SCHOOL” when done wrong, right up there with black eyeliner and frosty lipstick. All of which can be rocked with the right tweaks. Here are my tips to look more posh then frosh (ha ha ha.. get it?)

1) Use Primer. I don’t care what brand, use SOMETHING to prevent creasing, crumbling, and general nastiness.

2) Stick to the lashline and inner corner. Using a shimmery white shadow here is what really makes the eye-enhancing qualities of white shadow come to life.

3) Try a cream formula. For easy gliding over the lashline and preciseness, I really like pen formulas, such as this one by ELF.

4) And then go over it with a powder. This helps prevent creasing, and also gives the look staying power. Use an angled eyeliner brush or even a q-tip to really push the shadow into the lashline and/or inner corner

5) Use mascara to give your eyes definition. Since white eyeshadow is a pretty soft look, using mascara helps give your eyes subtle, soft definition. Maybe not as much as Kim K., but a healthy coating should do the trick.

Review: Sephora by OPI TrendTips in Feathers

Hey guys!

So this weekend I picked up these nail stickers at Sephora for some birthday nail excitement! I have used the Sally Hanson ones before, but I thought these ones were slightly less tacky looking, so I decided to give them a shot.

I love this print. I think it’s so cute ¬†but not over-the-top. These were easy enough to apply! I didn’t have a problem with them wrinkling. I do have two gripes, though: there is not a file included to remove the excess, and they are not very sticky so it’s hard to get them to stick to the nail without a lot of pressure, which I found annoying. I found using my normal-size file to be awkward and not abrasive enough to cleanly remove the excess.

Image

This photo is my left hand. Not too bad! There’s a little bit of chipping on the pinky, but I think it’s because the strips were not cleanly filed off.

Image

This is the right hand. As you can see, it’s much, much worse. Look at that chunk that fell off on my middle finger! And all of the chipping on the tips of the nails! Seriously, for $12 plus tax, I expected much, much better. I’m going to stick to Sally Hanson’s. ¬†I put these on Saturday night, and there’s already this much chipping on Monday… that’s not okay with me. These need some improvement.

Makeup Story

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I started wearing mascara and eyeliner in 7th grade, so probably around 12 or 13.

2. How did you get into makeup?
I always loved art and crafty stuff as a kid. My mom has the most amazing vanity with a drawer just full of makeup. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when I started playing with it, but I remember when I would be home sick or just on the weekends, she would let me just play with it. I’d come up with obscene look using eight lipsticks, wash it all off, and then do it again – for hours.

3. What are some of your favorite brands?
I love MAC, Maybelline, Sephora brand, Clinique, and ELF; among many, many others!

4. What does makeup mean to you?
I think it’s just something to boost self-esteem and confidence. But at times makeup definitely feels like an art form. It’s also a pretty good way to bond with people – by enhancing what other people have, and making them feel more attractive, you can create a good relationship. Also, it’s just fun!

5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Maybelline Fit Me foundation, any mascara, MAC naked lunch eyeshadow, and Tarte Emphaseyes Gel liner. That’s pretty much my routine anyway!

6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
Its so versatile: you can go from a very natural look, to a very ‘done’ look in a matter of minutes and products.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?
There’s good in each one! I love both, though I do see a benefit in splurging on things that I use often, and won’t have to get rid of quickly, like eyeshadow, gel liner, and brushes. The drugstore always has gems though. I always get foundation, mascara, and more trendy colors there.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
Get yourself a good brush set, and practice! Figure out what looks best, and don’t be afraid to play around until you find looks and colors you like.

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Lipliner that is significantly darker than your lips/lipcolor. Why does one want to look like they have a dirty ring around their mouth?

10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
There are some really talented people on there! I can waste hours and hours watching their videos. It’s a great place to get inspirations, get reviews before you purchase something, and find looks to wear!

March Favorites!

Hey guys!

So I know it’s only the 13th, but I wanted to show you guys some things that I’ve been loving this month! Get excited!

1) This top I just bought from Forever 21! So cute! I’m totally planning on wearing it on a date next week with tight jeans and boots!

2) Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick. I love these things. Plus, that color just looks so fresh and springy.

3) Teal¬†pumps. How cute are these?? I am picturing so many outfits with these. They’re so fun and perfect for spring and summer.

4) The Limited’s¬†lace skirt. Okay, I don’t actually own this, but I love lace anything. This skirt is just so classy but at the same time totally on trend.

5) MAC Cosmetics Satin Taupe eyeshadow. This color literally looks good on everyone, and is extremely versatile.

6) This¬†bracelet. LOVE the color combination. I’m going to try to make this next week, hopefully I will have a DIY post!

7) Okay, I know this picture is from forever ago! She’s definitely not preggers in this pic! But her hair! Oh my goodness, her hair. I’m obsessed. I need to start growing my hair, NOW!

8) A Chanel pearl necklace. A girl can dream.

Jazz Up Your Brush Collection!

Hey guys! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been mega stressed with finals this week. Crafting always makes me feel better. Back home I have a giant craft arsenal, but with limited space here at school I had to improvise!

I decided to take some old, cheap makeup brushes and give them new life. They are from Eyes Lips Face, I’ve accumulated them over the years from Target, and they are $1 each, plus tax; or you can buy them online here.

Using my neon pink Sinful Colors nail polish (color 920), I painted the white body of the brush using 2 coats.

The final result:

I’m interested to see how the paint holds up! I was thinking that this would be a fun idea for a gift for a ¬†friend who is just getting into makeup ¬†since an entire set is only $12 (I don’t have the whole set). Additionally, this would be perfect for a pre-teen birthday party! Instead of gift bags, buy each girl a brush set, buy some cheap, fast-dry nail polish, and paper towels! They would be cute with little designs on them too, if you’re especially nimble!

Happy crafting! Hope you will enjoy this new DIY section I’ve added!

Lindsay Lohan: Her Hair Through the Years

Hello friends,

I apologize for my lack of posts in the last month. It’s been crazy. I promise that I will try to do better.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Lindsay Lohan – one of the first non-Disney cartoon movies I remember watching was Parent Trap. Let’s take a look at her appearance since then.

so cute as the long-lost twins. all natural red hair.
her “Mean Girls” days..
looking a little older, experimenting with some strawberry blonde highlights
Platinum blonde, with a thinner face and body
Auburn hair, center part, looking a little healthier in the face.
Back to platinum, but still with a healthy-looking body and smile.
At the 2012 Golden Globes, looking extremely gaunt and washed out. She looks much older than her true age of 25 years.
